Random Rainy Ramblings

I thought it smelled like rain yesterday....
Speaking of rain, you know what I find odd? People who walk around with umbrellas, particularly large ones, when it isn't raining. Sure, maybe it was raining a little while ago or perhaps there's the lightest of drizzle the moment before, but they're walking around hunkered under this thing like it was raining fire when there's nary a drop falling from the sky. I just don't get it. I mean, sure, I'm all for being prepared but keeping your umbrella up because maybe it might start raining again since it was raining earlier today? I dunno. Maybe I'm just missing something. Maybe they're not doing it out of fear that the heavens will suddenly rend asunder and pour forth a watery deluge of fury such as Noah would balk at but rather just because it's easier not to fold it up again right away. After all, I do like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I do think though that there are a great many people who need to rediscover (or perhaps learn for the first time) the joy of walking slowly through the rain under a gray and heavy sky, of feeling the sky kiss the top of your head and carry you through the watery curtain it has given life for a short season. Alright, well that's enough nonsense out of me for today. Man, two updates in two days? I'm spoilin' y'all, seriously. Well, I 'spose I should find something semi productive to do, although pretty soon I gotta go meet someone so I can beat them with a stick. Laters!

Peace.

LDOC

Okay, so yesterday was actually the last day of class, cleverly referred to as LDOC. That means that for about the next week I have no class (I still have to write two papers and study for my exams, but hey! There's no class!). Now, to celebrate this joyous occasion there are many goings on throughout the day, mostly quad barbeques and various student group performances. Oh, and drinking. Did I mention that? Yes, lots of drinking. Anyways, the headline event is the concert on the main quad in the evening (this year I believe it was Jason Mraz, whoever he is, preceeded by some rapper who had to apologize for statements he made at his last concert concerning the Duke lacrosse team...). Like last year, I did not attend. Why not, you ask? Why miss out on the good times? Because, my friend, those aren't the kind of good times that are really my style. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy good, live music just fine, I just don't like the crowd that comes along with this particular concert. It's a time for drinking, making out, hooking up, drinking, being loud and raucous, drinking, and more drinking (thus leading to other interpretations of LDOC, such as Lotsa Drunks on Campus or Lacivious Dudes Ogling Chicks). Seriously, I've heard people say they are going to put a bottle by their bedside so it's right at hand when they wake up. I walked across the quad to get back to my room after the concert was over and it looked like a warzone and it was questionable who won, the students of the booze (the booze was slaughtered to a can, but there were a few student casualties as well, though most of those were probably felt this morning.) Yeah, so I sequestered myself in the library and only ventured out to go feed myself and chat with my roommate. Alright, alright. I'm done complaining and bemoaning my fate as a non-adherent to the philosophy of sex, booze, and not thinking about the consequences. Speaking of consequences though, someone must have a cruel and sadistic streak a mile wide because around 8-ish this morning someone pulled the fire alarm in one of the other dorms. All those poor, severely hung-over people. That must've been a great way to start the day. Anyways, I'm hungry and tired, so I'm going to get some food then go to bed.

Oh, and about that last entry....um, yeah. I'm insane. Pay me no heed.

Dedicated to The Duck-Fearer

I have come to a decision. Based off what I have seen in my life and heard whispered on cold nights in dark and musty bars in the wrong parts of town, I have decided that there is a faction out there that we have at best come to ignore or at worst romanticized and yet is far more than they appear. I speak of the birds. Yes, the birds. You may think that they are little more than delicate creatures that fly about carefree and gift us with beautiful songs, but I have seen. I have seen the ninja sparrow dodging off of walls, I have seen the kamikaze cardinal go for the knees of its victims, and I have seen the baleful stares of the Canadian geese. Now, I do not know their intent and I do not know their plans, but I know that they are not what they would have us believe. We must be cautious. We must be watchful.

They are more than they appear.

L'arôme d'un orage

I said that I'd planned to stick this up on my blog and even though it already got stuck elsewhere by chance (where it couldn't be happier) I'm going to go ahead and put it here too, just for the heck of it. Have fun, kids.

"a storm is coming
I can smell it in the air
full and sweet and heavy
seductive
It caresses my face with a cool breeze
to turn my head from the coming line
of dark bruises
flashing with anger
but I am wise to its wiles
and know full well what comes on the breeze
I can smell it in the air
a pregnant atmosphere
the tell-tale scent

a storm is coming"

Excuses, excuses, excuses

Well, for those of you (if, in fact, a plural is warrented q;) who've been wondering what happened to my proclamation that I was gonna revive this thing...well, school happened for one thing (busy, busy, busy) and then there was this whole deal with switching to the new blogger. See, I saw that I had the wee "switch to the new hotness" button on me dashboard, but unfortunately I didn't have a google account to use to make it. Thus begun the long and arduous task of deciding on a gmail user name which took me at least, what? Two months? Kinda pitiful, ain't it? I mean, yes, I did have more important things on my mind, but anyways...the point is that now I have a google account, but the button is nowhere to be seen, so the new fabulousness will apparently have to wait. In the meantime, however, I've got some stuff to stick up here and I'ma practice getting into the habit of posting here on a weekly (or biweekly) basis. This may seem wishful thinking, but I'm a firm believer in the grace of God and a new convert to rigorous discipline (through the grace of God), so we'll just have to see how this all works out c; Anyways, I best be finding something productive to do...I guess I'll see you around then.

Peace
